Spring 2026

It is evident when you visit Howtown how much work has been undertaken in the gardens over the last few months.  It is nice to see the care and attention being given to some very old established plants with Mrs B reminding us at all where they originated from and often the name.

The roses have had a particular attention being nicely wired and tied up so we look forward to lots of blooms. The rose bed every year suffers from stray sheep and Deer which is frustrating as they have been well nourished – we have sprayed regularly with garlic solution to try and deter but the evidence of the success will be in the summer months and we will report or even better show you, if a success.

The red squirrels have been well fed this winter and have made their presence well known over the last few months, so we feel very grateful they have made Howtown their home.

The tea room re-opened on the 27th March and we look forward to welcoming back our regulars together with new faces who are keen to experience our freshly made sandwiches, soup, and cakes.  The tearoom is open 7 days a week 10.30 am until 4 pm.

The weather of late has been a mixture of sunshine and rain but rest assured it always balances out, so we anticipate much better weather moving forward.

We thank you for spending time reading our winter diary and look forward to welcoming you back to Howtown for another year of stunning scenery and warm hospitality.
