Howtown Hotel closed for Winter as normal on the 1st November 2013 and almost immediately in readiness for the re-roofing project a spectacular envelope was erected over the entire hotel to protect from the weather and to enable the roofers to work throughout the winter.
The roof was being replaced after at least two hundred years and not knowing what to expect at all underneath, amazingly the rafters were in almost perfect order - a fantastic testament to the craftmanship of yesteryear.
Although in hindsight taking the roof off in what became the wettest winter on record wasn't the most sensible of plans!!!!!!
