Vagaries of the weather ~Spring 2016

Spring has now well and truly Sprung here at Howtown, with the vagaries of the Cumbrian weather continuing to dismay and delight throughout April and into May.

We had rain, then snow storms but the past week or so has been glorious - long may it continue!

Howtown Tearoom has settled in perfectly to Howtown life and provides welcome refreshments for  walkers, hotel guests and steamer travellers alike. Offering a selection of delicious cakes, teas, coffees and light lunches, the tearoom feels as though it has always been part of the Howtown experience rather than a new addition!

The Ullswater Way opened on the 25th April, with the aim to encourage visitors to enjoy the Ullswater Valley’s spectacular scenery on foot, and utilising links to the public transport network and Ullswater Steamers. Raising awareness of the beauty of the Ullswater Valley and opening a 20 mile route right around the lake, to be enjoyed by many, we hope it will be yet another boost to businesses in the area.

Here at the Hotel the season has started in earnest and we continue to welcome guests old and new. The gardens which suffered so much throughout the past season  are now coming into their own; the beauty of vibrant bulbs light up the borders and the rhododendrons are just coming into flower as the lambs play in the fields beyond the hotel.

A recent guest described Howtown as: ‘Steeped in history, bathed in tranquility and surrounded by beauty.’ A perfect summing up I feel!
